Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-India summit in New Delhi this week, according to presidential special aide for international affairs Teuku Feizasyah.

"The summit is being held to mark the 20th anniversary of relations between India and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations," he said in a press statement here on Monday.

"President Yudhoyono`s visit to New Delhi reflects Indonesia`s commitment to enhancing the cooperation and partnership between ASEAN and India. The meeting will also be used to develop a vision for future relations between ASEAN and India," Faizasyah added.

Before attending the summit in India, President Yudhoyono will go to Kuala Lumpur for an annual consultation meeting between the two countries on December 18.

Prior to the consultation meeting, the President is scheduled to hold a private meeting with Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak.

After that, the Indonesian head of state and Razak will lead their delegations to the ninth consultation meeting, which will be attended by many ministers and high-ranking officials.

While in Malaysia, President Yudhoyono is also scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate in Philosophy for his global peace efforts" from the Universiti Utara Malaysia.

"The annual consultation meeting is the highest forum for discussing and developing bilateral relations between the two countries," he said.

The previous meeting was held in Lombok, Indonesia, in October last year.

"This time, President Yudhoyono will discuss efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries. He will cover issues such as the protection of Indonesian citizens and migrant workers, border issues, as well as trade and investment," Faizasyah stated.

The President and his delegation are scheduled to leave for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday and return home on Friday. (*)
