New Delhi (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-India summit meeting here on Thursday.

The meeting to be led by Indian Prime Minister Mahmohan Singh will also be attended by heads of government of other ASEAN countries to commemorate the 20th anniversary of cooperation between India and the regional grouping.

India has become a dialog partner of ASEAN in 1992 after India adopted a foreign policy declaring East Asia as a strategic area in 1991.

In 1992, India became ASEAN dialog partner in certain sectors and since 1996, it is an active dialog partner in every ASEAN summit meeting.

The summit meeting in New Delhi is expected to adopt the results of work of a joint committee made up of a number of ASEAN and Indian leaders to promote cooperation between the two entities.

The committee held a meeting during the recent ASEAN summit in Phnom Penh.

Indian-ASEAN meeting has become an official agenda of ASEAN summit meeting since 2002.

Commemoration of Indian-ASEAN cooperation is also highlighted with a number of activities including old car rally in Yogyakarta, and goodwill visits by Indian warships to the ASEAN region.
