Medan (ANTARA News) - North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Wisjnu Amat Sastro said the local authorities ready to secure Christmas and New Year celebration in the area by deploying 2,525 personnel.

"The security officers are deployed jointly by the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), the police and other related agencies to secure the Christmas and New Year`s celebration," said Wisjnu after opening the Provincial Working Board Meeting of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) here over last weekend.

According to him, the 2013 security operation will mobilize police personnel to areas that prone to traffic jam, landslides, and crimes, as well as to secure churches, entertainment and tourism areas and other vital objects.

"We need to improve security condition in all areas relating to holiday celebration, including churches, so the people who are conducting religious celebration will feel safe and comfortable because they are guarded by police officers," Wisjnu said.

He also urges residents to celebrate Christmas and New Year in simple way to avoid undesirable incidents.

He said that people can also help maintain security and respect other people who celebrate Christmas and New Year 2013.

"Let`s create conducive atmosphere and safe condition in the community during the celebration of Christmas and New Year," he said.

Moreover Wisjnu said that the police also anticipate terror threats or other criminal acts that could disturb people in North Sumatra.
