"The ban is aimed at avoiding a conflict of interests and dynastic politics."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has decided to ban the wives of public officials of the party from nominating for legislative membership.
"The ban is aimed at avoiding a conflict of interests and dynastic politics," PKS President Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq in a press statement released on Sunday.
The decision was reached at the seventh meeting of the party`s law-making body recently.
Luthfi said the public officials include minister, governor, district head, mayor and lawmaker.
The ban also applies to pairs of husbands and wives from the party, he said.
"If their husbands have been nominated for legislative membership, their wives must not be nominated for the post," he said.
The meeting also decided the party`s stand on presidential candidacy in the 2014 elections.
"At time moment we do not deem it necessary to propose a presidential candidate," he said.
The party still has to study dynamics in the public, he said.
"When the time comes we will announce our presidential candidate," he said.
The other decision reached at the meeting was banning PKS lawmakers from carrying out activities which do not receive support from the public, including overseas comparative study.
"Any PKS member who is found violating the decision will be liable to organizational sanctions," he said.
