Semarang (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Democratic Party secretary general, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono said his party is prepared to compete fairly and ethically in 2014 general elections.

Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, who is popularly called as Ibas, made the statement here on Tuesday, when commenting on the General Election Commission (KPU) plenary session results of recapitulation process on the political parties which will participate in the next general election.

"Thank God, the Democratic Party is prepared to compete fairly and ethically in the upcoming general election, thanks to the hard work and solidity of all the party cadres." he said.

Ibas, who is concurrently a member of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI) Commission-I, overseeing the foreign, information and defense affairs, also expressed gratitude to all the party cadres who have commitment and readiness in facing the 2014 general election.

Apart from that, Ibas also expressed appreciation to the KPU, the regional Electoral Commission (KPUD), the electoral supervisory board (Bawaslu) and the general election supervisory committee (Panwaslu) who have worked maximally and transparently in conducting the verification process of the political parties as participants of the 2014 general election.

The Democratic Party, according to him, also allows the internal and external party cadres to become the party`s legislative members.

"The Democratic Party is open to recruit the would be members of legislators from the internal and external of the party, who have quality, integrity, loyalty, and inline with the party`s spirit of struggle," he stated.

Ibas said further that the Democratic Party in its effort to recruit the party`s would-be legislative members will raise the quota for the female cadres, including those from the figures of community, religion, youth, academician and artists.

"Of course, they should follow prerequisites and the party`s rules of game," he pointed out.

On the occasion, Ibas expressed hope that other political parties that would compete in the general elections to abide by the law of the 2014 general election.

Meanwhile, a political observer from the University of Indonesia, Ari Junaedi, stated recently that the Democratic Party should immediately improve its image in 2013 as part of political preparations to face the legislative and presidential elections in 2014.
