Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, has successfully recovered US$2.6 million unpaid wages and settled 99 percent cases of Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

Media and Information Director of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry PLE Priatna said in press release here on Sunday that his ministry, through the embassy, had also successfully resolved 4,360 cases of Indonesian problematic migrant workers.

"Of the 4,360 cases, excluding death penalty cases, 4,195 have been resolved and the Indonesian workers concerned have been repatriated to the country. Overall, the embassy has settled 99 percent and the remaining one percent will be handled in 2013," Priatna said.

In handling particular cases of Indonesian workers (TKI) involved in legal violations and criminal offenses, the embassy provided lawyers and interpreters for problematic workers in court sessions.

The embassy has work contracts with five local lawyers to provide legal protection for problematic TKIs under the command of a worker protection and service task force of the the embassy.

He said that the embassy also has a transit house that could accommodate some 200 people. "In a normal condition the transit house accommodate some 150 problematic TKIs.

However, at certain times, like after the pilgrimage season, the transit house often has its capacity be exceeded, even it should house some 500 people.

In such circumstances, the embassy provides additional shelter in the basement of the embassy building with a capacity of 100 people.

Up to January 15, 2013, a total of 132 migrant workers were still accommodated at the transit house, pending the immigration process by the Saudi authorities for their reparation.
