Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo or Jokowi said his administration will focus on the slum area management in the Indonesias capital city.

"In my five year-leadership, I will focus on developing and managing the slum areas in Jakarta," said Jokowi here on Thursday.

According to him the funds to manage slum areas are not only taken from Local Budget of DKI Jakarta, but also gained from Corporate Social Responsibility programs of several private parties.

"The total slum areas in Jakarta are found in 360 points. Jakarta is one of the six capital cities in the world which have the biggest number of slum areas. That is the reason why we are searching CSR to support the development of slum areas," said Jokowi.

He said the first effort to manage slum area is by acquiring land to construct several flats.

Jokowi predicted that Jakarta government requires at least 1,200 hectares to implement slum area management program.

"Currently, Jakarta Administration only has 250 hectares of area. While we need at least 700 towers or 7,000 flats to manage 360 slum areas," said Jokowi.

The Governor said several flats will be constructed in Daan Mogot on a 18 hectare plot of land and in Cilincing with 3 hectares.

"Besides, we also plan to build flats in Manggarai and Indonesian Bonded Zone area," said Jokowi.

He said the government will also construct at least four flats in Muara Baru, North Jakarta to accommodate people who would be relocated from the Pluit Reservoir banks.(*)
