"We think that the reclamation is only a motive to protect the property of real estate housing, private warehousing and elite community," said Kiara Coordinator of Education and Networking Division Selamet Daroyani.Jakarta (Antara News) - Non-Government Organization (NGO) People Coalition for Fishery Fairness (Kiara) has rejected the project of Giant Sea Wall establishment in Jakarta beach because it was thought to have certain purpose instead of reclamation.
"We think that the reclamation is only a motive to protect the property of real estate housing, private warehousing and elite community," said Kiara Coordinator of Education and Networking Division Selamet Daroyani here on Friday.
Kiara was also assumed that the reclamation will cause eviction, ruin the beach and sea ecosystem and decrease the fishermen` access to sail, he explained.
Daroyani added the reclamation has negative impact since changing natural ecosystem and water flow will lead the the subsidence of land in Jakarta on the sea surface which cause rob.
"All of them will impact to the climate change, particularly the material to burry the sea water has ruined the land," he said.
Moreover, Kiara were disagreed to the Giant Sea Wall project as the intimidation threatening which will be accepted by the fishermen in the reclamation project area.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo believes that the Giant Sea Wall is one of solution to mitigate rob flood which usually inundates North Jakarta region.
"The West Flood Canal (KBB) and East Flood Canal (KBT) are not enough to protect the Capital City from the flood. We need the Giant Sea Wall to enhance and complete the mitigation system, especially to avoid the rob flood," said Widodo.
According to Governor Widodo, the Giant Sea Wall, which firstly planned by former Governor Fauzi Bowo, was assumed to be possible to protect the capital city area from the flood up to next 100 years.
The project plan of the Giant Sea Wall will cover coastal area from Tanjung Burung in Teluk Naga district in Tangerang region to Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta.(*)
