"A total of Rp12.5 billion has been allocated in the regional budget for making the stickers for 3.5 million cars," Udar Pristono, the head of the service, said here on Thursday.
He said there would be red and green stickers to be put respectively on cars with even and odd number plates.
At the initial stage the system would only be applied to cars but later it would also be applied on other kinds of vehicles, he said.
"We hope the policy would be able to reduce traffic jams in Jakarta," he said.
As has been reported the system would be applied in streets so far restricted for cars with less than three passengers, on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Jalan Rasuna Said, Japan Pramuka and TransJakarta busway corridors from 6am to 8pm.
Pristono said the effort was taken ahead of the application of an electronic road pricing system in the city. (*)
