The results of the investigation should be made known to the public.Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered police to investigate and take firm actions against the assailants of Cebongan Prison in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Saturday, National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo said.
Pradopo said after a meeting with the president here on Tuesday that investigators from the criminal investigation department (Bareskrim) were now examining the scene of the incident in the prison.
He said that police in the investigation in the site were accompanied by officials from police`s forensic laboratory. Yoyakarta police were backed up by police from the headquarters in Jakarta, in this case the Bareskrim.
A group of armed and masked men raided a penitentiary in Cebongan, Sleman, Yoyakarta, last Saturday and shot dead four suspects allegedly involved in the killing of a member of an army`s special force Kopassus, first sergeant Santoso (31), in Hugo`s Cafe in Maguwoharjo, Sleman, several days ago.
"We are now focusing our investigation on finding facts in the shooting location. In their efforts to uncover the case, police begin their examinations in the incident scene. We have done it and involved a forensic team," the national police chief said.
In their investigation in the incident site, police have found 31 bullet shells and 16 bullets. "The forensic team is examining them," he said.
"We have questioned 25 witnesses. We have to examine all these and report them to the president. The forensic laboratory needs time to produce the results of its examinations," he said.
Pradopo said that the president instructed police to continue their intensive investigation. The results of the investigation should be made known to the public.
"The president hopes that the results of an investigation would be made public, although they are still findings in the shooting place," the police chief said.
The four suspects killed in the attack were Angel Sahetapi alias Deki (31), Adrianus Candra Galaga alias Dedi (33), Gameliel Yermiayanto Rohi alias Adi (29) and Yohanes Yuan (38).
President Yudhoyono has earlier said the raid last week on the Cebongan penitentiary was an attack on state authority.
"Besides seriously threatening the public`s sense of security the raid has also damaged the general public`s trust in the law supremacy," presidential special aide for political communication Daniel Sparingga said quoting the head of state here on Tuesday.
Daniel said the President has ordered the national police chief, General Timur Pradopo, to unveil the perpetrators and assure that all involved in the raid were brought to justice.
He said President Yudhoyono had also instructed the Commander of the Defense Forces, Admiral Agus Suhartono, to assure that all his men would give full cooperation to help the police unveil the identities of the perpetrators.
The President said the state authority must be restored and public`s confidence in the rule of law must not drop due to the incident, he said.(*)
