"If I face a legal process, or I am named a suspect for example, I will resign from BI."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Newly elected Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo promised to resign from his new post if he was named as a suspect in the Hambalang sports complex development scandal.

"If I face a legal process, or I am named a suspect for example, I will resign from BI," Agus said here on Wednesday.

The finance ministry has been mentioned to have disbursed money for the funding of the Hambalang sports complex development in West Java based on the budget of sports and youth affairs ministry.

The former sports and youth affairs minister, Andi Mallarangeng, has been named a suspect in the project, which is mired with a corruption scandal.

Agus said he always respected professionalism and integrity in his work. "I have firmly upheld professionalism and integrity in carrying out my duties in the past 30 years," he said.

Agus, who is still a finance minister until taking up his post as BI governor in May, 2013, said problematic transactions of ministries/state institutions should not become the burden of the ministry of finance.

"It is not true if the finance ministry is blamed for the mistakes made by other ministries/state institutions," Agus said.

He said that the main task of the finance ministry was to manage finance but financial planning, budget implementation, account and reports were the responsibilities of respective institutions.

Agus underwent a fit-and-proper test on Monday, and later on Tuesday night The House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission XI on financial affairs, elected him BI new governor through voting to replace Darmin Nasution who would end his term of office on May 22, 2013.

Currently still a finance minister, he was elected by the parliament through a vote with 46 votes in favor, seven abstaining and one against.

Outgoing Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Darmin Nasution said there were still lots of homework that must be done by newly elected BI Governor Agus Martowardojo in the coming five years.

"I will tell him (Agus) about the homework that has to be done. I will talk to him," Darmin Nasution who will end his term of office as the central bank governor on May 22, 2013, said.

Darmin said that among the homework that should be accomplished by the new governor included meeting inflation target, exchange rate of the local rupiah currency, payment system and financial inclusion for the people.***2***
