Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Government and people of Indonesia expressed their deepest condolences and sympathy on the passing of Baroness Margaret Thatcher, the former prime minister of the United Kingdom for period of 1979-1990, on April 8, 2013.

"In this time of mourning, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and may they find strength and solace during this difficult time," the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Besides contribution to her country, the late Baroness Thatcher will always be remembered as a figure who has contributed and influenced various international issues of her time, the ministry stated.

Earlier, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono also sent a letter of condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Indonesia.

"The president received report about it directly from Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and has expressed deep condolences. He has instructed the foreign minister to send a letter of deep condolences to her family as well as the British government," presidential spokesman Julian Adrin Pasha said.

Thatcher known as the "Iron Lady", had established one political generation in that country. She died at the age of 87 after suffering from a stroke, her spokesperson said.

Thatcher the only British woman prime minister governed from 1979 to 1990 and had never appeared in public in the past few years due to dementia.

She played several roles for the Western Block during the cold war against the Eastern Block spearheaded by Soviet Union.

Her market economic policy was very well known and identified by her name as "Thatcherism."

The war against Argentine over the Falkland (Malvinas) was one of the important events during her administration. (*)
