We are heading toward eco airport and smart airport."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Transportation wants the airports in Indonesia to apply eco-airport with a sustainable, reliable, and friendly environmental alternative.

"Indonesia is the country with environmental initiative and therefore it is important for its airport to apply eco-airport," the Transportation Ministry`s Air Transportation Director General Herry Bhakti said at the International Green Aviation Conference 2013 here on Wednesday.

According to him, the Government of Indonesia also has a commitment to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emission which was also supported by the Ministry of Transportation at international level.

Herry said Indonesia has been selected as an observer in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) working group to discuss global concepts in the world of aviation, including environmentally-friendly buo fuel for airplanes.

"We are heading toward eco airport and smart airport," he said, explaining that various researches had been made abroad.

He said Indonesia has not enough bio fuel for aviation and therefore state oil company PT Pertamina has developed a research program of bio fuel in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation and a number of airline companies.

According to him, the use of bio fuel instead of aviation turbine fuel (avtur) by airplanes aimed to reduce the emission of CO2.
