Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) plans to cooperate with PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines in the shipment of beef from Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara to Jakarta.

"Talks for the cooperation have been started and the memorandum of understanding for it is expected to be signed early in July," RNI president director Ismed Hasan Putro said here on Wednesday.

He said the cooperation would benefit both parties as RNI could later distribute meet quicker while Merpati would have RNI as its customer.

He said meat distribution would also be done to Surabaya in East Java and Bali.

Total meat to be shipped regularly reaches around 100 tons a month or 1.2 million tons a year, he added.

He said right now RNI is breeding 3,000 cows in Kupang to meet the domestic needs of meat, involving local farmers, cooperatives, local governments and local slaughter houses.

At present the number of cows ready to be slaughtered reaches 500 a month, he said;.

"At the initial stage total cow meat to be shipped by Merpati from East Nusa Tenggara reaches around 1.2 million tons a year but in the future it is expected to reach 2 million tons," he said.
