Indonesian Young Foresters (RMI) Campaign Manager Mardha Tillah, who is concurrently the coordinator of the activity, said here Friday that the event was aimed at providing insight to young people and society in general.
The damage of rivers represents the adverse effects of development that does not comply with the conditions of the region, so children become the victims of environmental degradation.
Environmental damage is worsening from time to time, and most of protected forest watersheds buffer in West Java have been severely damaged due to the increasing population and the spatial structuring inconsistencies carried out by the regional government.
Such a condition happened in the upstream of Cisadane River with 70 percent of the area is used by private estates, mining and government agencies. The condition is resulting in loss of livelihoods from agriculture and biodiversity loss, Mardha added.
He expected that the event which will be held at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) on June 30, will involve 500 people comprising among others students, teachers, and members of "Our Rivers Our Life Campaign" from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
The activities of the OROL campaign will include cleaning up of rubbish in Ciliwung River in Sempur by involving local people.
