Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali said in the near future he would invite the Myanmar ambassador to Indonesia for an explanation related to the situation in Myanmar, particularly the protection of Rohingya people.

Rohingya issue is a concern for Muslims and Buddhists in Indonesia. Indonesia also has an interest in the harmony in the country, said Suryadharma Ali told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Ali said that he would invite the ambassador of Myanmar for questioning about the details of the situation in the country, especially after the mass media spread the information about Muslim slaughter issue. "We need to seek further information," he said.

Indonesia needs to contribute for the peace in the country, because it is very desirable and it could have an impact on Indonesia`s interfaith harmony, Ali said.

Earlier, Indonesia had an important role in establishing peace in Southern Thailand.

The realization of peace in Southern Thailand was done through cooperation of the interfaith leaders, education and the provision of scholarships to 50 students from the country. (*)
