Of the 1230 respondents from 33 provinces in Indonesia, only 42.6 percent who believes in the integrity of political parties while 53.9 percent said they don`t believe in political parties.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Public`s trust towards the integrity of political parties in Indonesia is low, recent survey conducted by independent organization the National Survey Institute said.
"Of the 1230 respondents from 33 provinces in Indonesia, only 42.6 percent who believes in the integrity of political parties while 53.9 percent said they don`t believe in political parties and the rest 3.5 percent is abstain," LSN main researcher Dipa Pradipta said here on Tuesday.
According to the research which was conducted last May 2013, there are four reasons behind the public`s low trust towards political party namely the presence of corruption cases involving parliament members and perception that political party members have little intention to defend public`s interest.
Another reason is the presence of politicians who are involved in immoral acts such as extra marital affair and illegal drug use.
Political parties also ranked below other public institutions in terms of image with survey institutions leading in the first place by 69.3 percent followed by media organizations (65.1 percent), non-governmental organizations (58.5 percent) and mass organizations (57.5 percent). (*)
