Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said anyone who breaks the law must be held responsible before the court.

He made the statement here on Tuesday in connection with a recent clash between members of the Islamic Defenders` Front (FPI) and villagers in Kendal, Central Java.

"Anyone who violates the law must be caught, who causes damages must be caught and brought to the court, and punished," he said after accompanying President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono receiving members of the Forum of Rectors of Islam High-Learning Institutes at the state palace.

"Law enforcement officers must act firmly on any party, group or individuals, if they act against the law. The rule of law must be upheld," he said.

A mother was killed after she was hit by a car carrying FPI members while riding a motorcycle during the clash.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier said that he would not tolerate violent acts done by any community element during the current holy month of Ramadhan.

He said the state would not tolerate anyone conducting violence, destruction or taking the law into their own hands, which all run against the law in Indonesia.

In connection with that he called on the police to take stern action professionally to prevent the incident from spreading wider.

He said he had monitored chats in the social media in connection with the clash between FPI members and villagers in Central Java.

The president called on all parties to respect the holy month of Ramadhan saying people must prevent acts that would spoil their fast including violence.

He said violent acts done under the name of religion could not be justified, moreover under the name of Islam.

President Yudhoyono called for support from all people with regard to maintaining peace in the country where people will abide by the law and respect each other.
