Through IIMS, the country's automotive industry will go all-out to demonstrate its quality. "It is our desire to demonstrate the potential of the Indonesian automotive industry to a global audience, and IIMS will provide a clear picture to global auto players of the advances in our automotive industry," said Sudirman MR, Chairman of GAIKINDO, at the second IIMS press conference in Jakarta August 21.
As IIMS has drawn the attention of world's automotive industry, domestic players feel the necessity to participate in this year's auto show, and the high interest shown is encouraging the committee to create another plateau with this year's show. Entering its 21st exhibition, IIMS will be occupying more than 75,000 square meters to accommodate 36 sole agents (APM's) and 276 supporting industries.
Reserving 5 halls of the JIExpo for sole agents, Dyandra Promosindo as organizer of the show has added a new semi-permanent halls area designed specifically for automotive supporting industries. "We hope that through the support of IIMS for Indonesia's automotive supporting industries, these companies will have better access to the developing local automotive industry," added Sudirman.
Smart Vehicle Mobility
The advancement of the domestic automotive industry must be coupled with an understanding of fully supporting green policy, and IIMS and its participants have consistently been at the front of support of green policy and will continue to advocate green technology. In this year's exhibition, IIMS 2013 is carrying the theme "Smart Vehicle Mobility", emphasizing the importance of fuel efficiency by introducing transportation systems with efficiency standards that reduce over-consumption of fuel and over emission.
In accordance with this year's theme is a regular program at IIMS, the Indonesian International Automotive Conference (IIAC). This year, the '8th IIAC' will be conducted to support the '1st APEC-AD Workshop', which will discuss the development of the green car in the Asia Pacific region. IIAC will be themed "Green Car Development Facilitation", mirroring the concerns of all stakeholders and automotive players in Asia Pacific. International speakers at the conference are select experts from various countries including USA, Japan, Korea, China, India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
The IIMS 2013 theme is also gaining full support from APMs as can be seen from the technologies on display by the APMs in their booths as well as the theme of each booth which is derived from IIMS grand theme. PT Garansindo Inter Global is an example, bringing three brands to the show - Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep, and will carry the theme of "Earth, Wind and Fire" at its booth. Visitors will be invited to enjoy the journey of a manufacturer that emphasizes natural elements. "Earth" is represented by Jeep as cruiser vehicle. "Wind" demonstrates the dynamics and beauty of the vehicle as shown by Dodge and Chrysler. "Fire" exemplifies the said element that characterized the persistent spirit of the new-born brand.
Another participant, BMW Group Indonesia, will use IIMS 2013 exhibition as the place to introduce its latest series for the first time in Indonesia. The focus of the latest series is not only on beauty but also the advanced technology that supports its dynamics while driving, highlighting the distinction and technical capability that has never seen before in a BMW series.
Daihatsu is still consistent with its tagline of "Daihatsu My Best Friend" and this year, it will present a theme of "Compact ECO Mobility Best Friend" which means Daihatsu is "the Best Friend for Green, Efficient, and Compact Lifestyle". Daihatsu will also display its concept cars as a means of education as well as introducing its initiatives in supporting Compact & ECO lifestyles. Going all out, Daihatsu will be displaying 16 units and some of them are debut units in the automotive industry, including 5 units of concept cars, such as AYLA World.
Representing the spirit of green technology, Toyota will present "Smart Mobility for Better Tomorrow" as the theme for its booth. Toyota will be displaying 25 units in this year's IIMS and two of them are special exhibit units that will surprise the visitors of IIMS 2013.
"The support from APMs for this year's IIMS expresses their commitment to promoting the country's automotive industry. Their participation in the exhibition in carrying themes aligned with the IIMS 2013 grand theme will surely brighten the exhibition. We hope they will continue their support in the coming years," said Johnny Darmawan, Chairman of the Committee of IIMS 2013.
Unlike previous years, IIMS 2013 will be enlivened by several new brands that will also display their latest and advance automotive technologies. The new faces in this year's auto show are Japanese Datsun and French-based Renault, who are both new to the country's automotive industry. Other new names for this year's exhibition are Land Rover, who is participating with another premium brand, Jaguar, which mark the brand's return to enliven the exhibition after a long hiatus.
Commenting on these new brands, Johnny Darmawan said the presence of new brands in this IIMS 2013, along with their advance technology, will add the wide choice among the country's automotive products. "Their presence will enrich national automotive industry through various technologies that they bring. This is a positive thing for the exhibition and for our automotive industry," said Johnny.
Besides the above brands, IIMS 2013 will be displaying various products from passenger car brands such as Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Daihatsu, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, KIA, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Peugeot, Smart, Subaru, Suzuki, Tata Motors, Toyota, and VW. From the commercial vehicles brands to participate in this year's exhibition are Dyna, FAW, Foton, Fuso, Hino, Isuzu, MAN Trucks, Tata Motors, and UD Trucks.
New Programs to Steal Visitors Attention
IIMS always wants to inspire the young generation through its various activities and this year is no exception. This year's exhibition will have Corporate Social Responsibility activities which are focused on educational support activities. One of the programs to motivate students to learn more about automotive industry is through 'Plant Visit Program IIMS 2013'. The program runs from 26 August through 3 September. Students will be invited to visit Mercedes Benz plant (26 August), Isuzu plant (27 August), Mitsubishi plant (29 August), and Hino plant (3 September). Through each 4-hour program, students will have first hand experience of work processes at each APM. Some APMs also plan to donate machines as learning tools for students.
For students outside Jakarta, IIMS 2013 provides an opportunity to visit the exhibition. Schools that will be invited to attend this year's exhibition are SMK 1 Sukabumi and SMK 5 Makassar. Through this program, students will be able to see various vehicles with the latest technology displayed by APMs and have the opportunity to join numerous information-sharing programs related to automotive industry which will be held by participating APMs. "All the programs are the realization of our concerns to promote the country's automotive industry. Through special program for students, we are hoping to be able to help the development of the nation's automotive industry through local talent nationwide," said Johnny.
Besides displaying APMs latest technologies and conducting CSR activities, IIMS 2013 will also present various supporting programs, some of which are new to the event. These programs are intended by IIMS as magnets to attract automotive aficionados to the exhibition. The flagship programs arranged by the committee are a 'Test Drive' program that comes with new challenging tracks such as zigzag track, higher hurdles, and others. Of special interest in this year's 'Test Drive' program is the participation of Renault and Tata Motors. As newcomers, their presence is expected to encourage many visitors to try out the program.
Another new flagship program that will surely steal visitors' attention during this year's exhibition is the new and the first motorsport program ever held in IIMS, the 'Gymkhana Race War'. IIMS is the only international scale exhibition that presents such a motorsport event. Gymkhana blends drifting and slalom techniques in Gymkhana tracks that emphasizes speed and time accuracy. The motorsport presents 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, figure 8s, and other advanced skill challenges for participants to beat. It will present 4 classes of competition namely the 1.200 cc class, the 1,400 cc class and the FFA (Free For All) class.
Each class is determined by the machine capacity and wheel-movement system. The committee provides millions of rupiahs of prizes for the best racer of this year's 'Gymkhana Race War'. The program will be the place for APMs to showcase their advance technology. The program is conducted in collaboration with several communities such as Slalom, Drifting, and Rally communities and will be held on 27 - 28 September. The first day will be allocated for Heat 1 & 2 session and the second day will be for Heat 3, 4 & Final Battle. Through the program, visitors will be able to enjoy a live show of local Gymkhana racers' abilities, such as Putu Indra and others.
Pertamina Support
As in previous years, the organizing of this year's IIMS is again fully supported by Pertamina. The support shows Pertamina's concern as an Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation towards the development of the domestic automotive industry through a commitment to continue to innovate in producing and managing energy by considering the environment. This year, Pertamina will provide a special promo for IIMS visitors who buy Pertamax. Every purchase of Pertamax series with terms and conditions applied, consumers will receive one ticket of IIMS 2013. The promo is held from 1 - 29 September.
