Ali Makassar was shot to death while driving from Mulia to Wamena in the Kolome area, which normally is a two hour drive from Mulia city of Puncak Jaya District, said officials.
According to the police, Ali died from head wounds.
"Police are not yet sure whether there are other victims, as the location where the shooting occurred is far from Mulia," Chief of Puncak Jaya Resort Police Senior Adjunct Commissioner Marselis told Antara on Saturday.
The driver`s body will be brought to the Ilu area and then transported to Wamena by car.
Police said the body will later be sent to his family in Makassar.
