Indonesia plans to hold national, provincial and district legislative elections in April 2014, which will be followed by the presidential election on July 9, 2014.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono chaired a consultation meeting on the Eligible Voters List (DPT) with chiefs of state institutions at the State Palace on Wednesday.

The meeting started at 10 a.m. local time and discussed the issue of the DPT in relation to next years general elections.

"Its about the DPT and was attended by the Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi and the General Election Commission (KPU) Chairman Husni Kamil Manik," House Speaker Marzuki Alie said.

Other officials present at the meeting including Marzuki Alie, were Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Siddaharta Danusubroto, Chairman of the State Audit Agency (BPK) Hadi Purnomo, Chairman of the Judicial Commission (MK) Suparman, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Hamdan Zoelva, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono and the Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

Marzuki said he hoped that the consultation meeting would help find a solution for the DPTs problems.

The KPU had recently announced that the number of eligible voters in the DPT was 186,612,255, of which there are 93,439,610 men and 93,172,645 women. In addition to this, there are 2,010,280 voters in 130 countries, who will vote at 873 voting locations (TPS).

KPU Chairman Husni Kamil Manik noted that the KPU had considered all inputs before declaring the DPT.

However, some 10.4 million voters are being considered as "problematic" because they do not have citizenship identity numbers (NIKs).

He hoped to quickly put together the data regarding these 10.4 million problematic voters. Husni added that this number was real and that the political rights of these voters must be assured.

Commissioner Sigit Pamungkas said the KPU will coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs to solve the problem of the voters without NIKs. (*)
