Every ton of paper or magazine that is recycled helps in saving at least 15 trees."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - At least 300 kilograms of recycled magazine papers have been used to decorate this years Christmas tree and interior decoration at Jakartas Cathedral Church.
"All the used papers are provided by the church congregation. Every ton of paper or magazine that is recycled helps in saving at least 15 trees. We hope that the use of recycled paper for this years Christmas decorations can contribute towards saving the environment," stated Evelyn from the churchs Christmas committee here Tuesday.
With this small initiative, the church can hopefully contribute in saving the environment, and is in accordance with the Christmas message that will be conveyed during the mass.
The leaves of the Christmas trees located inside and outside the church, are made from recycled magazine papers. Each paper is folded in a conical shape and then attached to the Christmas trees. It is then painted with the characteristic Christmas colors such as red, green, and purple.
The recycled papers are also used to make ornaments such as snowballs and triangles, which are then hung on the churchs door.
The theme of this years Christmas celebration at the Cathedral Church Jakarta is "Come, O King of Peace." The theme is inspired by Isaiah 9:5. He wrote "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
According to a press release issued by the Cathedral Christmas committee, this years theme reflects the intended meaning of Christs return to help mankind.
He advocated the role of justice and peace in the world, and thus, the people should be committed towards the noble cause of working for peace.
Jakarta Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is also the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Jakarta.
The cathedral was consecrated in 1901 and has been built in the neo-gothic style, a common architectural style used for building churches during that time.
The Jakarta Cathedral is located in Central Jakarta, near Merdeka Square and the states Palace, with the Istiqlal Mosque directly facing it.
