Malang, E Java (ANTARA News) - An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is reported to have been blown up in Malang, East Java, early on Thursday morning.

"The explosion occurred at around 2:30 in the morning; the explosion site is now secured by a number of police and army officers," stated Malang Police Chief Adjunct Police Commissioner Adi Deriyan Jayamarta, here on Thursday.

Due to the heavy explosion, the ATM booth was completely destroyed and glass from the booth was scattered about 20 meters away from the machine.

Though the booths glass was destroyed, the ATM machine remained intact.

Four witnesses who were on the location are now being questioned by the police; however, the cause of the explosion is unknown and still under investigation.

Dozens of police personnel were deployed to sweep the explosion site within a radius of approximately 20 meters of the shopping and restaurant area as well as the rice fields nearby located within 50 meter radius.

"There are four sets of fingerprints found near the bottom left of the ATM, but we have not found any signs that lead to the explosives," stated one of the policemen on duty.

Investigations at the site of the explosion are being carried out by the bomb squad, Gegana, and East Java Police Forensic Laboratory.

Crime scene reconstruction is also being conducted now in order to determine the cause of the explosion, the surrounding road is now temporarily closed.
