The fire from the oil refineries triggered panic among the residents who watched the fire from the street near the scene.
"Before the refinery was burnt, we heard loud explosions that could have been heard several kilometers away from the scene," a local resident, Ari, informed Antara, here on Sunday evening.
The residents in Dumai assembled on the streets to watch the fire. They were in panic due to the smell of oil in the air.
Police officers along with their security teams have secured the incident scene to evacuate and control the situation.
