"The clean-up process will continue to be done in the next two days until Tuesday and it is hoped that the condition will fully recover by Wednesday," stated the governor, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono, here on Monday.
He added that cleaning up of the volcanic ash that has covered the region was the only way to get economic, education and other public activities back to normal again.
He explained that the community, the government, the military, the police and other elements must unite and work together to clean up the ash.
"Shop owners must also take part in the effort. Traders at traditional markets must also be mobilized to clean their marketplaces so that people will be back shopping there," he elaborated.
Sultan, who is also the chief of the traditional Yogyakarta Sultanate, stated that he hoped the regions Adisutjipto airport will be opened again on Tuesday after being closed for four days since Friday due to the ash rain.
"The airport needs to be opened soon as it is one of the keys to mobilizing economic activities in the region," he added.
Teachers, students and school employees have also been deployed to clean up their schools.
"Elementary school students however are not involved for fear of ash exposition," he pointed out.
But junior and senior high school students have been involved because they know how to wear masks. "Hopefully education activities will resume on Wednesday," he added.
