Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo said rupiah would not rise in value to below the level of 10,000 per US dollar this year as the structural condition of Indonesias economy is relatively weak.

"Rupiah would not gain too much. Rupiah below the level of 10,000 per dollar would not happen," Agus told a seminar here on Wednesday night.

The volatility of rupiah must remain under control, he said giving no target for rupiah exchange value.

"We have no target but from time to time we will issue real effective exchange rate (REER)," he added.

In January 2014, rupiah closed at the level of 12,210 per dollar losing 0.33 percent in value in a month. The loss was smaller than 1.71 percent by the end of December, 2013.

Rupiah traded at the level of 12,075 per dollar on the average in January, 2014 weakening 0.7 percent or lower than the average loss of 3.74 percent in December 2013.

The real effective exchange rate (FEER) of rupiah , therefore, was 94.2 on the 2006 base year that the competitiveness of Indonesian exports in price was relatively high, he said.

He said pressure would continue to hit rupiah in 2014, adding even developing economies with current account surplus would have their currencies under pressure, let alone countries like Indonesia with current account deficit.

Rupiah closed at the level of 11,653 per dollar gaining from the previous level of 11,676.
