We do hope that the cooperation between the Indonesian Navy and RNN will continue in a constructive manner."Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA News) - The Royal Netherlands Navy (RNN) awarded "Prins Hendrik" Medal of Honor to the Indonesian Navy as a mark of appreciation towards the partnership and friendship shared between the militarys of the two countries for years.
The Prins Hendrik Medal was delivered by RNNs Commander, Matthieu J.M. Borsboom, to Head of Indonesian Navy Admiral Marsetio during a military ceremony held on the Ahmad Yani-351 Ship in Ujung Maritime Command Base, Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday.
Besides the RNN personnel, the ceremony was also attended by Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Tjeer de Zwaan and Maritime Commander Rear Admiral Agung Pramono.
"The Indonesian Navy is the second institution, which has been awarded the Prins Hendrik Medal," claimed Borsboom.
The Prins Hendrik Medal is awarded to an individual or institution that has contributed in enhancing partnership between the Netherlands and other countries.
Admiral Marsetio noted that the Indonesian Navy was appreciative of being awarded the Prins Hendrik Medal and hopes for further cooperation in issues related to navy and military between the two countries.
"We do hope that the cooperation between the Indonesian Navy and RNN will continue in a constructive manner," Marsetio stressed.
For many years, the RNN and Indonesian Navy have been cooperating in military education and training, training assistance, joint-production of Indonesian Navys historical book, and in the procurement of Indonesias primary weapons and defense systems, one of which was the procurement of the "Sigma Class" corvette missile destroyer warship from the Netherlands.
Earlier, Commander Matthieu Borsboom had paid a courtesy call to Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko and Minister of Defense Purnomo Yusgiantoro in Jakarta.
