Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Polices Anti-terror Special Detachment, Detachment 88, is reported to have foiled a bomb package smuggling attempt that was sent via freight services from Surabaya to Makassar.

"Recently there was a bomb delivery from Surabaya to Makassar using a freight forwarder, but we have secured the bomb," stated National Police Chief Gen. Sutarman here on Friday.

Sutarman explained that the bomb package found on March 13 and March 19, were originally to be used on several target points in Surabaya.

Three men have also been arrested in Lampung, Bengkulu and Makasar, after allegedly being related to the bomb package discovery.

Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters spokesperson Inspector General of Police Ronny F Sompie, stated earlier that the police detachment have arrested one of the suspect namely Bambang Aribowo alias Hari Rahayu alias Galih alias Goli alias Andy alias Mbah Marijan.

Bambang was arrested at Soekarno Hatta Airport Jakarta, seconds after landing from Makassar, South Sulawesi.

On Wednesday, March 19, at 9:45 p.m., the police special detachment managed to arrest suspect Ambo Intang in Gading Cempaka district of Bengkulu.

Along with the arrest of Ambo, the police also seized two bombs, a pipe bomb and another food container bomb, in a courier company PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir (JNE) located in Sengkang Wajo.

Currently the bomb has been secured by the South and West Sulawesi bomb squad.

The bomb package was sent by the suspect through JNE in Panggung Village, Trenggalek District of East Java, to in JNE Sengkang Wajo South Sulawesi.

"The plan is that the package will be used to bomb dimly lit stalls in Barabba Belopa Luwu; theyve done a survey of the target," pointed out Ronny. (*)
