Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh has asked the people to report any fraud in the implementation of national examinations, to the authorities.

"You must report it (fraud) if you find fraud or leakage of exam papers," the minister stated, when conducting an unscheduled visit to SMAN 112 secondary school here on Monday.

However, he ensured that it was difficult to leak the question papers because officials carried out very tight supervision. Distribution of exam logistics was supervised by the police.

Moreover, he noted that in one classroom there were some 20 variations of different exam questions and so, exam takers could not abuse them.

"The important thing is that we should not think of fraud because it will only smear the image of our education system. Should there really be leakage of question papers or deceit, you should report it," the minister reiterated.

Beginning on Monday, all upper secondary schools (SMA/senior high schools, MS/religious high schools, SMK/vocational schools) and Packet C students are appearing for the national examinations across three days until April 6, totaling to 2.8 million students.

With regard to the distribution of exam logistics, the minister added, "We have reports from various regions that they have all received exam papers."

He explained that the distribution of the exam logistics began from Jakarta to the provinces from where they were further distributed to the districts and rayon levels.

The exam papers will then be picked up by the schools, which will organize the national examination.

In the implementation of the national examination, the Ministry of Education and Culture is cooperating with higher school institutions to supervise the national examination, the minister confirmed.

Referring to disaster areas, the minister remarked that the implementation of the national exams in the disaster areas such as mount eruption affected Sinabung in North Sumatra and Kelud in Java, as well as flood hit Manado area in North Sulawesi ran smoothly.

He promised to take stern actions against those who committed fraud in the national exam.

The national exam this year differs from that in the previous year. The results of this years examinations would be used as a means to accept students at state universities.(*)
