"I don`t understand in what points KPK has named me a corruption suspect," Suryadharma said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) strongly denied if there is miss understanding in naming Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali a corruption suspect.
KPK has charged Suryadarma, who is general chairman of the Islamic Development United Party (PPP), with corruption involving Rp1 trillion in haj pilgrimage budget.
Suryadarma has said that it was a miss understanding that KPK named him a corruption suspects .
In a news conference on Friday Suryadharma said ,"I pray (to God) that KPK naming me a suspect was merely a miss understanding."
"I dont understand in what points KPK has named me a corruption suspect," he added.
Deputy chairman of KPK Busyro Muqoddas, however, said the anti graft body held enough evidence to charge the minister.
"Thanks God, there was no miss understanding. We understood very well about the evidence," Busyro said later in the day.
On Thursday evening KPK spokesman Johan Budi said Suryadarma abused his power in appropriating fund for haj pilgrimage in 2012-2013.
The announcement came with a big bang for the coalition of political parties in which PPP is a member.
The coalition is led by Gerindra party of retired general Prabowo Subianto, who contested the presidential election on July 9.
Gerindra leaders, however, claimed the Suryadarma case has no impact on the coalition.
Suryadarma said he had no intention of tendering his resignation as religious affairs minister.
KPK has raided the religious affairs ministry office and taken away many documents believed related to the charges.(*)
