"I am a bit nervous, because I dont know how this award will add pressure on me. I hope you do not want me to make the world peaceful at the end of this week, but I will see what I can do," President Yudhoyono said.
The award was handed by Professor Klaus Schwab, the founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum, to the Indonesian head of state for his outstanding achievements, particularly in the economy, for the well-being of humanity, and for encouraging democracy, during the 10 years of his government.
Yudhoyono said he was honored by the award and received it on behalf of his countrymen, who have continuously provided him with inspiration and encouragement.
The president said he also realized that when he ends his term of office in October 2014, history will be his judge.
"In a turbulent world, marked with political turmoil, uncertain economies, and strategic tensions, Indonesia has a nice story to tell to the others," he noted.
Meanwhile, his Filipino counterpart Benigno S Aquino III at the Malacanang Palace congratulated Yudhoyono on receiving the award.
"Congratulation to President Yudhoyono, the first Asian man, on receiving this prestigious award," Aquino said. (*)
