"Since yesterday, before the incident had occurred, we had launched a large-scale patrol operation day and night," head of public relations Senior Commissioner Rikwanto said.
A bottle filled with fuel oil was thrown at the Jaringan Suara Indonesia (JSI) office at 05.00 am on Friday.
The JSI is one of the four survey institutes that had produced a quick count of the recent presidential election votes in favor of the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair. Meanwhile, several other institutes had declared the Jokowi-JK pair as the winner. The official results will be announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on July 22.
Due to the incident, the police will conduct patrol at the area and coordinate with survey institutes to receive assurance that the police will be informed immediately in case they receive a threat, and also, the police were ready to guard their offices, if requested.
With regard to the incident at JSI, Rikwanto said the police are still investigating and looking for the suspects.
He said the police have been facing difficulties in identifying the suspects due to a lack of witnesses and absence of surveillance camera at the location. (*)
