"What is best for Ical now is to resign. It is not worthwhile to keep appearing in various forums and leaving bad trails for the party," said a senior politician of Golkar, Fahmi Idris, during the Golkar inter-generations cadres press conference here on Tuesday.
Fahmi also pointed out some failures of Ical, such as partys mismanagement, which had led to a decline in Golkars vote during legislative election, and his plan to run for presidential candidacy, but failed and then decided to stand as vice presidential candidate.
"But then again, he failed and decided to support other parties," he said.
As a senior cadre, Fahmi deplored how Golkar Party that had won legislative election in the last two terms, now has become a supporter of Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential candidacy, which was promoted by parties from the third and fifth list.
"This is the worst failure," he stressed.
Agreeing with Fahmi, another senior politician of Golkar, Ginandjar Kartasasmita said the party now had lost its identity as a great party, so it had to be restored to its past glory.
"Golkar is a great party, and it is impossible for such a great party to not run for election but only support others. So, we want Golkar to come back on its track, to its charter and bylaw," Ginandjar explained.
During the press conference, the inter-generations cadre of Golkar also declared that all components of the party needed to act to save the party by conducting the 9th Golkar Party National Conference at the latest on October 4, 2014.
The presidential election is being contested by two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.
The winning pair will be officially inaugurated as the countrys seventh president and vice president in October 2014.
