Representatives of the two presidential candidates supporters signed an agreement declaring commitment to maintain peaceful situation during a ceremony at Balai Kartini, South Jakarta.
Military Chief General Moeldoko and Chief of National Police General Sutarman also attended the event.
"We call on the supporters of Prabowo Subianto and the people of Indonesia to create peaceful situation. If there is dispute over election result, we ask them to refer the issue to the court," AS Erlangga, supporter of Prabowo Subianto, said after the ceremony.
Erlangga said he and his friends were willing to accept whoever wins the election. He also called on the elected president to increase the welfare of Indonesian people.
Meanwhile, supporter of Jokowi, Ananda Mustadjab Latip, admitted the supporters of both presidential candidates were in tense situation while a democratic party, such as election, should have been welcomed with excitement.
"As a supporter of Jokowi, of course I wish he will win the election. But I also wish that if Prabowo wins the election, all Indonesian people can accept him. Whatever the result of the election is, the people must accept it," said Ananda.
According to Ananda, it was hard to gather the hardline supporters of both Prabowo and Jokowi in one place. But he expressed hope the meeting on Sunday would create a peaceful situation ahead of the announcement of winner of the election next July 22.
The declaration for peaceful election made by supporters of Prabowo Subianto and Jokowi on Sunday agreed on five points namely commitment to maintain the unity of Indonesia and abide the five principles of Pancasila as well as the Constitution by not mobilizing supporters to the streets.
The supporters also called on the politicians and elites from both presidential candidates to stop uttering words which will divide the nation. They also agreed that they would oversee the vote counting process held by the General Election Commission (KPU) so as to avoid fraud. They also called on the military and police personnel to remain neutral.
Indonesia just held its presidential election last July 9. The election was contested by two candidates namely Prabowo Subianto and his vice presidential candidate Hatta Radjasa and Joko Widodo and his running mate Jusuf Kalla. The announcement of election result will be on July 22.
