"He will have to return as he is still governor," Gamawan Fauzi said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Home Affairs Minister (Mendagri) Gamawan Fauzi said that Joko Widodo will become officially active governor of Jakarta starting from July 23, following the announcement of winner of presidential election by the General Elections Commission (KPU).
"He will have to return as he is still governor," Gamawan Fauzi said here on Wednesday.
According to Ministerial Regulation No. 13/2009 on leave for regional leaders, an acting governor is entitled to use gubernatorial operational funds to conduct coordination meetings on matters of security and public and for other special activities.
Jokowi should resign from his post as governor before he is inaugurated as president in October 2014. The resignation will be processed in parliament. Till the parliament approves his resignation, Jokowi will serve as the governor.
Earlier, Jokowi had become inactive Jakarta governor after he had registered with the KPU as the presidential candidate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Previously, KPU chairman Husni Kamil Manik had announced the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair as Indonesias newly elected president and vice president following their victory in the July 9 presidential election.
The decision was made in a letter after the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla pair had secured 53.15 percent or 70,997,833 votes, he told an open plenary session, which was attended by the winning duo here on Tuesday evening.
The decision letter dated July 22, 2014, has been sent to those in the leadership of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), and the Regional Representative Councils (DPD).
The letter has also been addressed to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, chief judges of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court, as well as leaders of political parties supporting either pair of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, he said.
The Jokowi-JK pair had secured 70,997,833 votes or 53.15 percent of the total 133,567,276 valid national votes, while Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa had received 62,576,444 votes or 46.85 percent.(*)
