Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Ship Bung Tomo-357 docked at the Belawan Seaport, Medan of North Sumatra Province after setting sail from England, its manufacturing country.

"The ship weighs 2.3 thousand tons and is 95 meters long and 12.7 meters wide. It has four engines in a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) arrangement that generate 31 knots of speed," the Commander of Main Navy Base I of Belawan, First Admiral Pulung Prambudi noted here on Monday evening.

The ship is a newly built frigate class ship that has Multi Role Light Frigate (MRLF) function.

Bung Tomo-357 has enhanced navigation and communication systems that have been integrated with the main Oto Melara 76mm howitzer.

The Navy has also equipped the ship with weaponry such as anti-air gun DS 30 B Remsing 30mm, anti-submarine torpedo Thales Sensor Cutlass 242, Surface to Air Missile (SAM) Vertical Bunch Sea Wolf, and Exocet MM 40 Block II missile.

"Thus, the ship is battle-ready and prepared to face attacks from air, surface, and below the sea," First Admiral pointed out.

Two other ships with similar strength and weaponry will be deployed to guard the Indonesian maritime territory.

"The commander and also all staffs of Navy in Main Base I Belawan feel proud because it was the first seaport that is being visited by Bung Tomo-357 in Indonesia," Prambudi stated.

The Commander of Indonesian Ship Bung Tomo-357 Colonel Yayan Sofiyan expressed his appreciation after receiving orders to safely and successfully bring the ship to Indonesia.

The mission also involved promoting Naval diplomatic ties with several countries that the warship visited during its journey.

"The ship will continue its journey to Jakarta on Tuesday and will arrive in Surabaya. We have planned that the ship will participate in the Indonesian Militarys 69th Anniversary celebration ceremony at Indonesias Eastern Fleet Command in Ujung, Surabaya," Sofiyan added.
