Yudhoyono pointed out that today`s military personnel should be ready to face the enemies who are influenced by different ideology, belief, militancy, and perception.New York (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivered a general lecture on the role of the military in a changing world at the United States Military Academy in West Point on Monday.
Addressing around one thousand US military cadets, President Yudhoyono noted that the challenges being faced by the military continue to change in tandem with the developments in the environment, technology, and numerous other factors.
"The challenges will never be easy and the same because technology can change the military strategy and doctrine," the Indonesian head of state remarked.
He explained that at this point in time, the members of the military should prepare themselves for both conventional and unconventional wars.
"The unconventional battle include, among other things, anti-attack operations and the war against terrorism, which is more complicated and difficult," he affirmed.
Yudhoyono pointed out that todays military personnel should be ready to face the enemies who are influenced by different ideology, belief, militancy, and perception.
"That is why the battles today are not easy," he pointed out.
The president stated that concurrently, developments have changed the environment, and the international relations today have become more dynamic than before.
"The geopolitical balance continues to change, and the sources of new conflict that arise relate to competition in acquiring natural resources, particularly food and energy," he added. (*)
