The leader of the gang is known with the name of Din Minimi and the gang has often kidnapped people for ransoms, Husein said here on Wednesday.
The gang has posed for a picture at a mass media holding fire arms as if to challenge police, he said.
On Dec 27, police almost caught Din Minimi in a raid at his house, but he managed to escape. There was a brief exchange of fires before he ran away.
Police found three units of telecommunications device, and ammunition at his houses.
"We received unconfirmed information that he was hit on his left foot," Husein said.
Police would not stop looking for him until he was caught or surrendered, he said, adding, "We would not tolerate armed crime in Aceh."
He acknowledge some people in Aceh still hold fire arms belonging to former Aceh separatist fighters.
"People are called on to hand over fire arms they still have or risking heavy punishment," he said.
