Indonesian government will strengthen the National Coordination Team for boosting South-South and Triangular Cooperation and adopt a one-date policy.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government will always strive to increase its role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation, Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi stated.

"The Medium-Term Development Plan 2015-2019 underscores the need for Indonesia to enhance its role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation," the minister noted in her opening address to the South-South Cooperation Forum 2015 at the Foreign Affairs Ministrys building here on Tuesday.

To that end, the Indonesian government will strengthen the National Coordination Team for boosting South-South and Triangular Cooperation and adopt a one-date policy, she emphasized.

"We will set up a special Indonesian body to play a role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation with the vision "Better Partnership for Welfare," she stated.

The minister noted that Indonesia continues to increase its role in South-South cooperation by implementing capacity building programs.

The capacity building programs under the cooperation scheme must be inline with the national development priorities of each country, she stated.

"To implement the capacity building programs, the national ownership will be ensured, and the nations leadership will always be committed," she affirmed.

She further pointed out that during the period between 1999 and 2015, Indonesia had 32 development partners under the triangular cooperation scheme and had organized around 400 training programs, which were attended by 4.4 thousand participants from developing nations in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.

The capacity building programs carried out by the Indonesian government had, so far, focused on small and medium businesses, health, fishery, agriculture, disaster risk management, and training for law enforcement, she noted.

She underscored the importance of South-South cooperation as international cooperation, which actively contributed to global economic growth and welfare.

She noted that in the past decade, trade among countries involved in South-South cooperation was far higher than that of North-South cooperation.(*)
