Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thousands of people, including women and children, attended the funeral of Indonesian comedian Olga Syahputra (32) in Malaka Cemetery, East Jakarta.

Several people said they wanted to watch the funeral ceremony in person than on television.

"We came to see Olga for the last time. I can understand why there is a crowd. Olga was loved by many," an attendee at the funeral, Risma (38), stated here on Saturday.

Risma, who attended the funeral with her child, added that she wanted to meet several Indonesian artists attending the ceremony as well.

"I want to see the artists. Many of them are at the funeral ceremony. I saw Julia Perez and Ayu Ting. There are several others, but I dont recognize them," another visitor, Dania, noted.

Earlier, Olgas family had planned to bury him in Pondok Kelapa Cemetery, but later choose to do so in Malaka.

Access to Malaka Cemetery was blocked by excessive traffic as many people had parked their vehicles on the roadside.

The comedian, who suffered from Meningitis, had been admitted in Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore since May 2014.

His family moved his body from Singapore at 06:00 a.m. local time on Saturday and arrived at their residence at 10:15 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.
