The decision has been made in view of the plan to close the airport to facilitate VIP aircraft services during the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) 2015.Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - AirAsia airlines has decided to cancel its services to and from Husein Sastranegara airport in Bandung, West Java, from April 23 to 24, 2015.
The decision has been made in view of the plan to close the airport to facilitate VIP aircraft services during the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) 2015 in the West Java provinces capital city.
"Commercial flights to Bandung will be temporarily suspended from April 23 to 24, 2015," Head of Corporate Secretary and Communications AirAsia Indonesia Audrey Progastama Petriny said in a press statement here on Monday.
The commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Bandung AAC is scheduled to be held in Jakarta and Bandung from April 19 to 24.
Based on the schedule of the AACs 60th anniversary celebrations, which will be held in Jakarta and Bandung (West Java), a Senior Officials Meeting will be held on April 19 at the AAC venue and a Ministerial Meeting and a Summit will follow on April 20, 2015.
On April 21-22, the Asian-African Business Summit will be held. President Joko Widodo will host a state banquet in honor of the heads of state attending the event.
On April 24, the last day of the AAC, all heads of state participating in the events are expected to take part in a Historical Walk in Bandung.
Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has asked the Bandung city government to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Husein Sastranegara International Airport complex by decorating it with flowers ahead of the 60th commemoration of the AAC.
"The request is in line with Bandungs ambition to be the City of Flowers," Bandung Mayor M. Ridwan Kamil informed journalists after a meeting with Kalla at Gedung Sate here Monday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far received requests from at least 18 state leaders to hold bilateral meetings with President Joko Widodo on the sidelines of the anniversary commemoration of the AAC and Summit.
"The president has received requests from 18 state leaders to hold bilateral meetings," Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi noted.(*)
