We all understand that we do not have any other nominees and that Haiti is good enough."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will proceed with its decision to install Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti as Indonesias police chief, even though the House of Representatives (DPR) has yet to grant its approval, Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla said.
"We all understand that we do not have any other nominees and that Haiti is good enough. Even if the DPR does not approve him, we will go ahead with his inauguration because Friday will be the 20th day since the presidents letter bearing Haitis nomination was sent," he stated here on Thursday.
According to law number 2/2002 on the national police, if the DPR does not come to a final decision on the presidents chosen figure to fill the post of the national police chief within 20 days, the nominee will be considered to have been approved by the parliament, he explained.
Haiti was grilled by members of the DPR in a fit-and-proper test, where he elaborated on the eight points of his mission if he was approved as the national police chief.
Among the points were strengthening solidity by continuing the internal reform initiatives, particularly those related to improving the quality of human resources, infrastructure and budget, and promoting proactive policing in improving the polices capability in fighting crime.
Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti became the countrys acting police chief to replace General Sutarman, whose term as the national police chief was cut short prior to his official retirement in October 2015 by President Joko Widodo on January 16, 2015.
Born in Paleran village in Umbulsari sub-district, Jember district, East Java province, on July 24, 1958, Haiti is known as the best graduate of the Indonesian Police Academy.
