Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will inaugurate an undersea optical fiber network called Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS) in Manokwari, West Papua province, on May 10.

"At first, the president was scheduled to inaugurate the SMPCS in Jayapura (Papua province), but then the venue was moved to Manokwari (West Papua province)," spokesperson of the Indonesian communication company Telkom Robert Wibowo Rahardjo noted here on Friday.

He affirmed that the president will inaugurate the cable system on May 10, 2015, during his visit to Manokwari, he added.

According to Rahardjo, the optical fiber network will be installed around Papuas coastal areas such as Sorong, Manokwari, Biak, Jayapura, and Merauke to Mimika.

The installation of the undersea optical fiber network is expected to benefit people, especially internet users, by ensuring optimal data transfer, Robert noted.

President Jokowi is scheduled to arrive in Manokwari on Sunday (May 10) to inaugurate the SMPCS and to visit the traditional markets and distribute Smart and Healthy Indonesia cards to the community.
