Let us await the results of investigation conducted by the French government."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Din Syamsuddin has strongly denounced the armed attacks in Paris which have left 153 people dead.
"No matter the motive behind the attacks, be it religion, politics or culture, the attacks are not justified. Any act which claims the lives of people is not justified," he said on the sidelines of a discussion on "Interfaith Dialogue for Peace and Coexistence: Crucial Element to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals" at the parliament building here Saturday.
He was shocked to hear of the armed attacks and bomb blasts which killed more than 150 people, he said.
However, he refused to speculate on the motive behind the tragedy.
"Let us await the results of investigation conducted by the French government," he said.
Din, who is also chief of the Center for Dialogue and Cooperating among Civilizations (CDCC), expressed the hope that the tragedy would not disrupt the Conference of Parties (COP) 21 to be held in Paris from November 20 to December 11 this year.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to attend the COP 21.
The human tragedy in Paris should draw the attention of the world community to fight against violence, Din said.
Media reports said earlier that more than 39 people were killed in a series of simultaneous armed attacks across Paris Friday, as well as explosions outside the national stadium where France was playing Germany in a football match.
