Bandung (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo said corruption has caused backwardness , lopsidedness and injustice.

"Corruption proved it has kept nations away from mutual prosperity . That is why corruption has become our mutual enemy , the enemy of the whole world," the president said in a statement read out in a ceremony commemorating the International Anti Corruption Day by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan here on Thursday.

The president said Indonesia opposes corruption not only because it causes financial loss to the state but as it is also a crime against humanity.

Corruption has impoverished many nations in the world, he added.

He said any where in the world including in Indonesia, corruption grew and was systematically committed, even organized to form a network.

"As it has become a network, greater courage is needed to fight corruption through two steps -- preventive measure and firm and strict law enforcement.

He said preventive measure is no less important than repressive measure or law enforcement.

"We need to develop a system and clean governance, as only clean government is effective in preventing corruption," he said.

The government, therefore, seeks to accelerate the process of administrative reform including in public service, he said.

The mechanism of the bureaucracy must be directed toward creation of electronic government or e-government- from cash flow management system, online tax, e-budgeting, e-purchasing system, E-catalog, utilization of whistle blowing system , he said.

Many jobs in the bureaucracy that could be carried out much more efficiently by using bureaucracy technology.

"The key word is creating e-government to improve public service, transparency and accountability," the president said.

Comprehensive measures are needed to fight corruption by involving the people in anti corruption campaigns, he added.

"The key to success is cooperation of all law enforcement agencies , synergy between executive , legislative and the judicial bodies," he said.

Another key to success in the fight against corruption is those in power setting a good example, he said, adding, government leaders in the center and regions must remain the forefront in seeking to create a clean government administration.
