Denpasar (ANTARA News) - The Depasar district of Bali sentenced Margariet Megawe to lifes imprisonment for murdering her six year old adopted child, Engeline.

"The suspect was found guilty of premeditated murder, abusing and discriminating against child," the presiding judge Edward Harris Sinaga said here on Monday.

The sentenced was the same as demanded earlier by the team of public prosecutors.

Margariets lawyer Hotma Sitompul said the convict would appeal the verdict.

The tragic death of Engeline in May last year, has attracted nation wide attention and caused public condemnation of the suspect.

The prosecutor said in the indictment Margariet beat Engeline causing the two ears of the child to bleed on May 15 last year.

The angry suspect then rammed the head of Engeline to the concrete wall of her room.

On May 16, Margariet hit Engeline again with her bare hand rammed her head to the wall and then grabbing the hair of Engeline forcefully throwing her to the floor where she laid dead in front of Agustay , a man servant of the suspect.

The body of Engeline was later found buried in the backyard of Margariets house.

Enegline was adopted by Margariets late husband, who, witnessed said, bequeathed part of his assets to Engeline.
