Harry acknowledged having a company in Hong Kong in 2010 but he said he already sold it in December, 2015.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) Harry Azhar Azis clarified to the taxation directorate general issue over his named being mentioned in the leaked Panama Papers on Friday.
The leaked Panama Papers exposed holders of thousands of hidden bank accounts implicating many politicians and business leaders internationally.
The names of many Indonesian were mentioned in the documents suspected of bank fraud, tax evasion and other financial scandals.
Harry was summoned to make clarification denying tax evasion or any activities against the law by his company operating in Hong Kong.
Harry acknowledged having a company in Hong Kong in 2010 but he said he already sold it in December, 2015.
"It is nothing to do with BPK reports of Sumber Waras Hopital," he said referring to acquisition of the hospital by the Jakarta governor at a price allegedly much higher than the market price causing a loss of Rp191 billion to the state.
BPK report lead to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoning Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok to make clarification.
Ahok, who is known as a clean man, denied wrong doing and accused BPK leader of seeking to damage his reputation ahead of election for new governor of the city next year.
Harry, the former polititian of Golkar party, said his company was only registered in Hong Kong but it had made no transactions and asset.
"It had no assets. It was a one dollar company and I sold it at one Hong Kong dollar," he said.
Taxation Director General Ken Dwijugiasteadi said the clarification was needed for calculation of potential tax obligation unpaid so far.(*)
