Samsuri will perform as Rahwana, a mythical primary antagonist in the Hindu epic Ramayana, during the 24-hour dance performance titled "Rahwana Wirada," which will involve some 30 other dancers and musicians.Solo, C Java (ANTARA News) - Samsuri and Mudjo Setyo, two local dancers of Solo, will deliver a non-stop dance performance for 24 hours during the commemoration of International Dance Day on April 28-29 in Solo District, Central Java Province.
Samsuri, who is a teacher with the Faculty of Performing Arts at Solos Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI), stated here on Tuesday that the performance was aimed at fostering the art form of dancing, which he had practiced since childhood.
"From what I do, I hope to uphold the dancing tradition," Samsuri emphasized.
Samsuri will perform as Rahwana, a mythical primary antagonist in the Hindu epic Ramayana, during the 24-hour dance performance titled "Rahwana Wirada," which will involve some 30 other dancers and musicians.
They will be performing solo dances and some collaborative ones during the record-breaking performance.
As a dancer who will perform for 24 hours, Samsuri termed the basic dancing theme "Bimo Suci," based on which the fundamental story will revolve throughout his performance.
Mudjo Setyo, a member of Wayang Orang Bharata of Jakarta, will also collaborate with Samsuri for the performance.
The annual event of Solo Menari 24 Jam, or the 24 hours Dancing Solo, will be held in some locations in Solo, in which thousands of dancers will be participating.
"More than six thousand dancers from across Indonesia and overseas will enliven the Solo Menari 24 Jam," Rector of Solo ISI Sri Rochana Widyastutieningrum stated.
Ponity from Banyuwangi, East Java, and Ida Bagus Oka Wajana from Bali are the two dancing maestros who are also participating in the ninth edition of the event.
Some 150 groups comprising four thousand dancers had participated in 2015, while this years event will involve 221 groups or six thousand dancers from Indonesia and some other countries, such as Malaysia and China.(*)
