President Jokowi has been right in picking Tito."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The countrys Golkar Party gave full support for Commissioner General Tito Karnavian as new police chief proposed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to the House of Representatives (DPR).
I have heard that President Jokowi has named Tito Karnavian as the sole candidate for new police chief to the House. For me Comr.Gen. Tito is a young police general, very capable with high integrity and undoubted performance. President Jokowi has been right in picking Tito," Golkar General Chairman Setya Novanto said here on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day House Speaker Ade Komarudin said he had received a letter from President Jokowi proposing Comr.Gen. Tito Karnavian as the sole candidate for new chief of state police.
Ades announcement ended speculation on who is to be the countrys new police chief to replace outgoing police chief gen. Badrodin Haiti, who is to reach his retirement age in August.
Novanto said Tito has maintained good relations with all state institutions including DPR, and he has good style of leadership as he had proved when he was Jakarta police chief.
Tito has not long been promoted to three star general to head the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) after serving a few years as Jakarta police chief.
Jokowi picked Tito over a number of other more senior three-star generals proposed by the National Police Commission as candidates.
Tito reputation began in the Polices anti terrorist squad Densus 88 which succeeded in arresting or eliminating notorious terrorist leaders such as Azhari Husin and Noordin M. Top.
Ade Komarudin said the DPR leaders would meet on Thursday to discuss the letter of the president.
"Hopefully DPR could hold a plenary session on Tito nomination," Ade said.
Support for Tito has also been indicated by the Islamic United Development Party (PPP).
