Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian flight carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is targeting New York and Los Angeles as its flight route destinations after Indonesia passed the flight safety standard of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Vice President Corporate Communications of Garuda Indonesia, Benny S Butarbutar, said here on Monday there will be two or three flights every week.

"Well make our flight schedule convenient for the people and thus win the markets trust," he added.

According to him, New York was being selected as it is a business center while Los Angeles is a special market.

At the moment, he added, Garuda Indonesias management has not yet thought of direct flights. The flight to the US will have a halt at the Narita Airport, Japan, as a hub.

Benny said direct flights will also be considered since passengers prefer such services as Jakarta-Amsterdam and London-Jakarta.

He added that Garuda will use Boeing 777 as it is aerodynamic and saves 10-15 percent of fuel.

Benny explained that the fuel cost accounts for 40 percent of the total operational budget with 75 percent load factor.

Indonesia has officially attained Category 1 safety standard, according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Therefore, all national flight carriers with PK registration can fly to the country eight years after these were stopped.(*)
